Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, or OKC, is the capital city of Oklahoma.  The city is geographically large, and parts of it are in Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian and Pottawatomie counties. While most of the city is in Congressional District 5, parts are located in District 3 and District 4

The city has a weak mayor form of government, with most of the operations managed by a city manager, who is appointed by the council. The current mayor is David Holt, who was elected in 2018.  James D. Couch has been the City Manager since 2000. He will retire effective Jan. 2, 2019 and will be succeeded by Craig Freeman.

City elections

Municipal elections are non partisan, held the second Tuesday of February (primary) and if necessary, the first Tuesday of April (general). Mayoral elections in even numbered years, and councilor elections in odd numbered years (staggered, see below). Both the mayor and councilors server 4 year terms.

There are eight wards, represented by one councilor each, who serves a term of four years. Ward elections are staggered, with Wards 2, 5, and 8 up in 2019 and 1, 3, 4 and 7 in 2021.
